Evepraisal Is Gone — The Best Free Alternative in 2026

5 min read

For most of EVE Online’s third-party history, Evepraisal.com was the way to put a price on a pile of loot. You pasted an inventory, it gave you a Jita value, done. In 2023 the site shut down when its maintainer stepped away — a reminder that community tools live and die with the people who run them. So what do you use now?

What happened to Evepraisal

Evepraisal wasn’t hacked or banned; it simply reached end-of-life. Running a high-traffic appraisal service means constantly fetching market data and absorbing thousands of pastes a day, for free. When the author moved on, the site went read-only and then offline. Its source stayed open, which is why successors appeared quickly.

The free alternatives in 2026

  • eveappraisal.com — the closest spiritual successor: simple, single-purpose, with persistent per-URL appraisals.
  • Janice — popular in wormhole and industry circles, with good paste handling.
  • EVE Tools Suite — our own free online appraisal, which adds a side-by-side multi-hub comparison and CCP’s EIV on top of the classic workflow. See the full Evepraisal comparison.

How appraisal actually works: buy, sell, split

  • Sell— the lowest sell order. What you’d pay to buy now (or receive if you patiently sell).
  • Buy— the highest buy order. What you’d get if you dump the item instantly.
  • Split— the midpoint. The fairest single number for “what is this worth.”

The gap between buy and sell — the spread— is the market maker’s margin. Wide spreads mean illiquid items where the “value” is fuzzy.

What EIV is

EIV (Estimated Item Value) is CCP’s own adjusted price, independent of the order book. It underpins industry costs and insurance payouts — a speculation-free baseline, but not what you’d actually receive on the market.

Where to sell matters

The same loot is worth different amounts at Jita, Amarr, Dodixie, Rens and Hek. A good appraiser shows all five side by side. You can check a single item too — e.g. Tritanium. Try it on the free EVE Tools Suite appraisal.
